Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People's Health

Our doctors are very experienced in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's health.

Our practices delivers care under the Australian Government's PIP Indigenous Health Incentive program.  This program ensures Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a chronic disease get the health care that they need for free.

A chronic disease is an ongoing illness you have had-or are likely to have-for at least six months. Some chronic diseases include:

  • Asthma

  • Cancer

  • Heart Disease

  • Diabetes

  • Arthritis

  • Stroke

Any person who is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander 15 years or older who has a chronic disease/s and a current Medicare card is eligible for free health care.

In addition, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who have an existing chronic disease or a chronic disease risk factor is eligible for discounted medicines under the PBS Co-Payment Measure (currently $6 for each medicine [subject to change]).

If you have a Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) concession card, or if you or your family has reached the PBS Safety Net threshold, then you will not have to pay anything at all.

If your Medicare card is not current, or you don’t have one, talk to your health worker, or call the Medicare Australia Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access and Employment line on 1800 556 955.
